A workshop designed for children and adults to explore the history of our oral tradition through poetry, song and spirtuality.  Mr Richardson starts by laying the foundation of our fansination for the past with an explanation of the African Concepts of "Time" (Sankofa, Sasa and Zamani).  Then from the African Griot, to Paul Robeson and MLK, from Mahalia Jackson, the Last Poets & Nikki Giovanni , to the latest generation rappers and spoken word poets; Mr Richardson demonstrates and illistrates the art of the spoken word.  Excellent for students intrested in poetry, public speaking, storytelling and preaching!

PAINT ME A POEM

HAIKU #6  - "The widest river - begins with one pesistant - narrow little stream..."

THIS WORKSHOP EXPLORES EKPHRASIS - writing inspired by art; a workshop designed for adults and children to review Ekphrasitic poems and prose inspired by both classical and conteporary works of art and photography.  From these discussions students will learn ways to approach writing about a work of art. (for example - writing in voice of  a person in the artwork, writing in the voice of the artist, writing about the scene, etc. etc)  Students will compose their own pose and prose from images they find in art books or from exhibits in the gallery or museum.
