His work in photography and video gives us the opportunity to glimpse the world through the lens of an enlightened eye and to see life caught in the flash of a moment. He has intrigued audience’s imaginations and uses photography to broaden mankind’s perspectives on human rights, equality and how it affects the lives of people throughout the U.S.
While enjoying having the ability to express my views with paper, paint and a pen, I write and paint to stir an emotion, to touch a nerve, or generate a smile. I am a versatile self-taught artist with an innate ability to paint. When looking at a blank canvas, a certain mood may hit me, than I search for what I call “The Sweet Spot” of the canvas which becomes my starting point. I will visualize a completed work of art. My preferred medium is acrylic and mixed, due to the fact that sometimes I will paint very fast to capture the vision and the story in my mind because if I wait too long the image slowly fades and the painting may be lost forever. When painting, I am a pioneer and ignore the rules and don’t want to try to stay inside the lines, because my style is outside the box. I want my work to show a human hand actually painted the picture and let it tell the story through my work. At times I get so involved in the painting that the some of the bristles of my brush may come out on the canvas. I’ll leave the bristles on the canvas and this now becomes very much a part of the painting and one of my signature markings of my work. As I paint, I don’t strive for perfection, I strive to produce heartfelt emotion in my work. My style has been described as abstract, bordering on impressionistic. My art has been displayed in museums and is collected throughout the United States and in Europe. My work was selected to be hung in the Hampton, Virginia Convention Center and my books are in several libraries, to include the inventory of major bookstores such as Barnes&Noble and Books-A-Million.— I’m Gerome www.artbygerome.com
